WITNESS TO WATER
America’s western water crisis is newsworthy on a global level, and the Colorado River - an iconic waterway and challenged resource that supplies drinking water to forty million Americans—is in the crosshairs. Acclaimed global photographer Pete McBride brings us home to his deepest passion: saving his backyard river. For two decades, McBride has documented the Colorado River, from source to sea. Through stunning imagery and stories of the people and places dependent on it for a myriad of reasons, Pete shows how the river has become a bellwether of overuse and the climate change crisis. Experience the remarkable beauty and resilience of this ephemeral source of life, something worth celebrating - and saving.

About Pete
Pete McBride is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker, writer, and speaker known for powerful storytelling at the intersection of adventure and environmental conservation. Born and raised in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Pete has spent more than 20 years documenting some of the planet’s most awe-inspiring landscapes—from Everest and Antarctica to relocating African elephants and swimming with orca in the Arctic.
A National Geographic Explorer, Adventurer of the Year, and Sony Artisan of Imagery, McBride has worked in over 75 countries, blending photojournalism and filmmaking to spotlight urgent environmental issues, particularly water scarcity, public land protection, and climate change. His 750-mile trek through the length of the Grand Canyon inspired the Emmy-nominated documentary Into the Canyon and the award-winning book The Grand Canyon: Between River and Rim. His subsequent books, Seeing Silence and Chasing Water, also received national book awards. In 2025, Pete was honored with the Ansel Adams Award for lifetime achievement in conservation photography.
